Steam Store Page Copy Rules (free)

Ask an AI to write your Steam page and you usually get "an immersive, unique, epic journey". These 10 rules make it say what the player actually does, in a format skimmers read, without inventing features or reviews. Free, no signup.

Works in: ChatGPT or Claude custom instructions, a Cursor rule, CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md · Format: plain Markdown · Updated

How to use it

  1. Copy the rules below, or download steam-copy-rules.md.
  2. Paste them into your AI tool's rules or system prompt (or at the top of the chat).
  3. Give it your real notes: genre, core loop, features, platforms, controller and Steam Deck status. Rules 5, 6 and 10 keep it from guessing.
  4. Ask for the short description first, then the "About this game" section. Check the list of unverified claims at the end before you paste anything into Steamworks.

# Rules for writing Steam store page copy with AI

> Paste this into your AI tool's rules or system prompt (Cursor rule, CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md, or a chat's custom instructions) before asking it to write your Steam page.

1. Open with what the player DOES, in one sentence, in the first 300 characters (the short description). No world lore first.
2. Name the genre and one or two well-known comparison games players already know ("a cozy farming sim like Stardew Valley, but underwater").
3. Every sentence must be specific to THIS game. Ban filler: "immersive", "unique", "epic journey", "like never before", "stunning visuals", "hours of gameplay".
4. Use the "About this game" section as scannable blocks: a 2-line hook, then 3-6 feature bullets that each start with a verb and name a concrete mechanic.
5. State scope honestly: number of levels, hours or characters only if real. Never invent features, awards, quotes or review scores.
6. Mention platforms, controller support and Steam Deck status only if the developer has confirmed them.
7. Write for a skimmer: short paragraphs, no walls of text, no ALL CAPS.
8. End with a clear, low-pressure call to action: "Wishlist to get notified at launch."
9. Match the game's tone (horror copy should feel tense; cozy copy should feel warm) without using the filler banned in rule 3.
10. Before finishing, list any claims you could not verify from the developer's notes so they can check them.

Steam's own guidance: Steamworks store page documentation (see Store Page Written Description for the short and long description fields).
